Watson students came dressed in their best Mardi Gras gear in shades of green, purple and gold for the school’s Feb. 24 Mardi Gras-themed spring dance.
Third-grader Maci Varjaski was fashionable in a outfit with many shades of purple, complete with a sparkling tutu. Varjaski said her mom and dad, Mary and Mike, helped her put together her ensemble.
“It all started with the tutu and we added details from there. At a Mardi Gras party, it’s fun to get a little crazy with fashion, so we were glad to help,” said Mary Varjaski.
For those in simpler gear, Mardi Gras masks each student made in art class helped liven up any outfit.
“The Watson PTA bought and donated masquerade masks for every student and donated them to the art department. In art, students learned about the history of masquerade balls and Mardi Gras celebrations and used it as inspiration as they decorated their masks. The creativity of the students is really wonderful and we have some great masks tonight,” said PTA representative Jaclyn Iagulli.
After slipping on their masquerade masks, students made their way to the all-purpose room to dance and sing along to their favorite tunes.
“Getting to jump around and have fun is the best part of the night,” said student Nicholas Paul.
