Navy reassigns 3 submariners in fraud probe

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A spokeswoman for the U.S. Navy’s submarine force says three female officers have been reassigned as part of an investigation into alleged financial misconduct in their previous jobs.

Navy Cmdr. Monica Rousselow says other personnel not assigned to submarines are also targeted in the probe by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

The officers are among the first women to serve on U.S. submarines since the Navy lifted a gender ban in 2010.

Rousselow said Friday that the alleged travel claim fraud occurred before the supply officers reported to three separate submarines. She said the allegations have nothing to do with their performance on the vessels.

The women are being temporarily reassigned to a submarine group at a Navy base in Kings Bay, Ga.
