The Lisbon Alumni Association has announced the names of three people nominated for the 2012 Alumni Hall of Fame induction ceremony, set to begin at 6 p.m. April 28 in the ballroom of the Salem Golf Club, 1967 South Lincoln Avenue.

The three alumni to be toasted are Carl McPherson, Charles Yoos and Richard Zitto.

The dinner menu consists of Steam Ship Roast Sirloin, Chicken Marsala and Orange Roughy in lobster sauce with red skin potatoes, green beans almondine, salad, rolls and dessert. A cash bar will be available.

Judge Ashley Pike will be master of ceremonies for the induction ceremony. Admission, which includes the buffet dinner, is $28 per person. Tickets can be purchased by sending a check to the Lisbon Alumni Association at P.O. Box 421 Lisbon, OH 44432, or they can be obtained by calling Marilyn McCullough at 330-424-1145. The induction will be the top fundraising event of 2012 for the alumni association’s scholarship fund.

McPherson, a retired U.S. Air Force colonel, graduated with the Class of 1960. He has spent most of his career working in the aviation and aerospace industry. His final assignment at the end of his distinguished 35-year career in the Air Force was as the chief of staff, Air Force Special Operations Command at Hurlburt Field, Fla.

Among his many accomplishments, he commanded a C-130 Tactical Airlift Squadron and was vice commander of a Tactical Airlift Wing. He managed the worldwide fleet of more than 1,800 C-130 aircraft as the program manager.

Since his retirement he has been involved with business development for several prominent defense contractors. He has been awarded the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal and Air Force commendation Medal, each multiple times.

He received his bachelor’s degree in basic science from the Air Force Academy, his master’s degree in system management from St. Mary’s University and a master’s degree in national security and strategy studies from the college of Naval Warfare.

Charles Yoos, known as “CJ,” a retired USAF colonel, is a professor emeritus at the United States Air Force Academy, where he served on the faculty for 20 years during his 30-year active duty career.

He graduated from Lisbon’s David Anderson high School as valedictorian in 1964 and from the Air Force Academy as a distinguished Honor graduate in 1968. He earned a master’s in business administration from UCLA and a doctorate in business administration from the University of Colorado.

Yoos is professor of management at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo., and has been a visiting professor in Germany and France.

Richard Zitto, known as Dick, was a member of the Class of 1963. He is a Columbiana resident and a retired teacher who taught physics for 39 years at Kenton High, Boardman High and Youngstown State University.

He helped develop and coordinate the YSU Physics Olympics program. He created and ran the Youngstown Area Physics Alliance for 18 years.

Zitto participated in the People to People Ambassador Program Physics Education Delegation to China. He recently donated his massive collection of antique physics equipment to the Smithsonian Institute. He is the organizer of Class of ’63 breakfast meetings and reunions.
