Boy Scout Troop 25 chartered to Canfield United Methodist Church recognized Scouting Anniversary Week with its annual Scout Sunday Breakfast and Anniversary Dinner Feb. 12.

On Scout Sunday, Troop 25 serves a breakfast to the community all morning between church services and scouts from the troop participate in both services at the church with Senior Pastor Don Christensen (an Eagle Scout).

This year’s message was given by Jason Henry and John Wolboldt. Henry talked about what scouting meant to him and his thoughts on the “Fine Young Man Syndrome.” Wolboldt spoke about the history of Troop 25 and being an Eagle Scout.

At the second service after Wolboldt spoke, he was presented with the National Eagle Scout Association’s (NESA) Outstanding Eagle Scout Award by the Greater Western Reserve Council, Boy Scouts of America for not only his continued service to scouting but more for his continued and widespread service to the Canfield community.

The annual dinner and Winter Court of Honor recognized the 102nd anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America and the 86th anniversary of the troop and honors the scouts who have earned rank advancements, merit badges andother awards in scouting.

Scouts being recognized that evening and their recognitions are: Luke Bowser (Scout Award); Donny Duda (Shotgun Shooting); James McGarry (Scout Award); Branden Pine (Scout Award); Michael Ramunno (Emergency Preparedness); and Hunter Schwab (Scout Award).

A highlight of the evening was the awarding of several unique Troop 25 awards. Recipients of the Bob Roberts Memorial Back Patch Award Points were: CJ Blaney (Eagle Scout); Donny Duda (Most Active Scout) and Michael Ramunno (Outstanding Scout).

Two special troop awards are named after Jimmy Jones and Herman West.

Jones was instrumental in the development of Troop 25 from its beginning in 1926 and kept it going for many years especially during World War II.

West was an Eagle Scout of Troop 25 and later served as its Scoutmaster for many years.

The 2011 recipient of the Herman West Most Active Scout Award for the third year in a row is Donny Duda and the recipient of the 2011 Jimmy Jones Outstanding Scout Award is Michael Ramunno.

Troop 25 meets every Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the basement of Canfield United Methodist Church at 27 S. Broad St. in Canfield. For more information, contact Scoutmaster Kevin Prus, Sr. at 330-533-5616.
