Pa. judge sets hearing to determine if dog dangerous

MCKEESPORT, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania judge says he’ll hear arguments before deciding if a dog that fatally bit a newborn baby should be euthanized.

Allegheny County Judge Ed Borkowski says the 18-month-old husky will get a hearing to determine if he’s a dangerous dog that must be put down.

Authorities say the dog fatally bit 2-day-old Howard Nicholson inside a McKeesport home last month. The dog was removed from the home but later adopted by another man.

A state dog warden later seized the dog, since renamed Helo, from the new owner, William Uhring.

Uhring’s attorney says the state hasn’t shown the dog is actually dangerous. Nadia Adawi says there are extenuating circumstances that need to be considered.

A date and time for the hearing hasn’t been set.
