Vienna teen injured in crash with semi

LIBERTY

A Vienna teen was seriously injured Friday afternoon when his car struck the back of a tractor-trailer rig that unexpectedly changed lanes and became lodged under the rig.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Kevin McWreath, 18, was northbound on state Route 11 just north of the Tibbetts-Wick Road exit at about 1:05 p.m. when a semi, driven by Patricia Myers, 47, of Akron, also heading north, slowed to avoid an object in the road and suddenly changed lanes swerving into the path of the auto.

The jaws-of-life were used to extricate McWreath, who was trapped for several minutes until emergency medical services personnel freed him. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown where he was listed in stable condition.

Myers was cited for an improper lane change. The semi is owned by Cooper Brothers Trucking of Akron, the OSHP said.

Traffic in the north lane of Route 11 was closed for about an hour. Personnel from the Liberty Police and Fire Departments and the Vienna Fire Department and EMS assisted the patrol.
