Grove City College seeks nominations for the 30th annual Campus-Community Awards to be presented in November.

The awards aim to publicly recognize individuals who personally strengthen these relationships. The deadline for nominations is Sept. 30.

The nominee for the community award must be a local individual who has demonstrated or cultivated positive relationships between Grove City College and one or more community groups.

The nominee for the campus award must be a College employee or current student who donates substantial hours of volunteer service that benefits one or more organizations in the Grove City area and engenders a positive and engaged outlook between community and the College.

In 1971, Florence E. MacKenzie, wife of Grove City College president Dr. Charles S. MacKenzie, sought to cultivate the relationship between the College and the Grove City Borough community.

Her efforts and involvement included serving as president of Grove City Woman’s Club, the Shakespeare Club, the Women’s Bowling League, secretary of the local United Way and president the Grove City Hospital Board of Trustees, where she oversaw the merger of the Bashline/Rossman and Grove City Hospitals, now known as the Grove City Medical Center.

After her death in December 1981, President MacKenzie created the Campus-Community Awards to honor her vision and effort and appointed a committee to seek nominations of qualified individuals from both areas whose volunteer efforts embodied the spirit of her work.

The awards have been presented since 1983.
