Youngstown BOE to consider levy

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown Board of Education plans to discuss placing a renewal levy on the November ballot at its July 10 meeting.

The deadline for placing a levy on the ballot is Aug. 8. In 2008, voters approved a 9.5-mill levy that’s to expire at year’s end.

Even though no details about a possible levy were available at Friday’s special meeting, the millage will have to be greater to bring in the same amount of money to the district as the current levy largely because of a decrease in many city property values, said Blaise Karlovic, interim treasurer.

Without a November levy, the district will have to start deficit spending in fiscal year 2013, board members have said.

The board approved four pieces of legislation, including filing its five-year financial forecast with the Ohio Department of Education.
