Traffic alerts issued for I-76, I-680, Market

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

The Ohio Department of Transportation District 4 has announced several new traffic patterns that are related to ongoing construction.

Beginning today, the entrance ramps from South and Powersdale avenues to Interstate 680 northbound will reopen, and the northbound I-680 traffic will shift back to the northbound side of the interstate.

On Tuesday, ODOT will close the I-680 southbound exit ramp to South Avenue and shift the one lane of traffic traveling I-680 southbound to the northbound side of the interstate.

All other traffic pattern shifts, including reducing I-680 southbound to one lane between Market Street and South Avenue, will remain in place. This work is part of a $14.1 million project to rehabilitate seven bridges on I-680 that is scheduled for completion in July 2013.

Other changes are occurring in Boardman and Jackson townships.

In Boardman, Nisonger Road at Market Street is now open, but Palestine Avenue at Market is closed through mid-July for a culvert replacement. Market Street near Palestine and Southwoods avenues will continue to have lane restrictions for the installation of a traffic signal. The entire project should be done by October.

Interstate 76 westbound will have lane restrictions from the Ohio Turnpike to state Route 45 for resurfacing between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday.
