Poland’s Mitzel tops Misheff

In the Championship Flight of the Women’s Ohio State Amateur Championship, Allison Mitzel, from Poland High School and a member of the Youngstown State women’s golf team, defeated Erin Misheff (Silver Lake) 1 up in 19 holes.

The event is being played at Riviera Country Club. The course is playing at 6,018 yards, par 72.

Medalist honors were shared by Anna Lesher of Ashland and Angela Cordian of Massillon, both 1-over par 73.

Ursuline High golf team scramble July 29

The Ursuline High boys golf team is sponsoring a four-person scramble on July 29 at Bedford Trails.

The event is a fund-raiser for new coach Matt Morgan to purchase golf balls, bags, etc. for the fall season. Fee is $280 per team with a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start. Contact Morgan at 330-507-7673 (matt-morgan@hotmail.com) or Andrew Grischow at the course at 330-536-2234.

Golf benefit set for cancer patients

The seventh annual Sunshine Benefit Golf Outing to defray the medical costs of a Boardman couple suffering from cancer will be July 21 at Lakeside Golf Course.

Proceeds will be donated to Carl and Lucy Seidita, the parents of Kimberly, 17, and Carl Jr., 15. Carl is fighting stage-three inoperative pancreatic cancer while Lucy has oral cancer and requires a feeding tube.

The 9 a.m. shotgun start at Lakeside is a three-player scramble that costs $225 per team. Deadline to purchase tickets is June 16.
