Dogs ran across the lawns wagging their tails while catching frisbees in their mouths during Boardman Park’s Dog Days of Summer June 3.

“We are preparing for the dog park. This event was really about bringing everyone together and talking about dogs do’s and don’ts at the park,” said Friends of Paws Town vice president Abby Loree.

The event provided a platform for pet owners to learn more information about the upcoming dog park, as well as the proper protocol for dogs and their owners once the park is made available in September. Some of the topics discussed were how to safely protect yourself and your dog during emergency situations like dog fights and how to maintain control over your dog without harm.

“We have different speakers come out and talk about dog park etiquette and behavior. I want adults to be properly trained and I am considering making it a monthly event for the dog park,” Loree said.

The new dog park would offer many more amenities for pets as well as owners, Some of the new features include more water activities for dogs, including a water splash pad and a wash station, according to Loree.

The event also made time to allow pets to play with other dogs.

“Small dogs played half a day during poochie play time and the larger dogs played during the other half,” said Loree.
