In a Boardman Lions Club meeting June 14 at the Saxon Club, members installed a slate of officers and honored outstanding members for their contributions.

Members congratulated four-year member Mary Shobel, who received the District 13 D Lions Eye Care Foundation Knight of the Blind Award.

The recipient of the Knight of the Blind Award has shown dedication in the area of sight conservation or meaningful work with those who are blind or visually impaired. The contribution may be a single project or many activities over a period of time.

Also at the meeting, the club honored six-year member Laura Hancock with the LCIF Melvin Jones Fellowship. The fellowship, begun in 1973, is named for the Lions’ founder and is the highest form of recognition. The award embodies humanitarian ideals consistent with the nature and purpose of Lionism. Hancock has shown exemplary service to the club and the Boardman community.

Boardman Lions presented pins acknowledging 12 months of perfect attendance/participation to 19 members, more than half the club membership. Those acknowledged were Patti Shears, Shobel, Betsy Koch, Judy Jones, Bill Rausch, Terri Wilkes, Ron Mistovich, Ron Paris, Joyce Mistovich, Joni Blase, John Landers, Hancock, Jaclyn Rausch, Kathy Collins, Karen Kannal, Terry Shears, Andrea Snyder, Lee Ward and Mandy Ward.
