Friends of the Library plan activities


The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County and its Friends of the Library are planning July events in conjunction with Celebrate Poland and the YSU Summer Festival of the Arts.

During Celebrate Poland from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, the Poland Library, 311 S. Main St., will have a half-price book sale in the library’s lower level bookstore. A tent book sale will take place in the library’s parking lot. Local authors, artists and musicians will be present to sell and sign their wares.

The event will also include kids’ crafts and an 11 a.m. presentation by an actor portraying President William McKinley.

The Main Library, at 305 Wick Ave., Youngstown, will be a hub of activity from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. July 7 during YSU’s Festival of the Arts. Events will include a book sale from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., a 10:30 a.m. performance by the Boardman High School Jazz Band and a 1 p.m. performance by Ballet Western Reserve.

There will also be a prize drawing and summer reading sign-up. The Poland Library will have a book auction of rare and special items for book collectors from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 22 in the library’s meeting room.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for a reception until 6 p.m. Admission is $10. The auction will continue from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Aug. 23 in the library’s meeting room.

Payments must be made by cash or check (with proper identification). All proceeds will go to the Friends of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County.
