Shekinah and Trimz beauty and barber salon, located on 1408 Raccoon Road, marked its one-year anniversary with a celebration event June 20.

Owners Pete and Charmayne Scott, who also work in the salon, wanted to make the community more aware of their business.

“This is our first year and we want to let people know that we are here and here to stay. We’re excited about Austintown and we like the area, said Charmayne.

The event included a raffle, a bounce-around area for children, games, prizes and discounted haircuts. Prospective stylists and barbers were also encouraged to come visit. The couple’s children were happy to share such a milestone with their parents.

“I’m proud of them. It’s a blessing from God. They worked really hard and it’s always been their dream,” said Josh Scott, son of the owners.

Although the event was a success, the trials and tribulations of starting a small business were difficult at first for the Scotts.

“We came from Indianapolis, Ind., a year and six months ago because my husband transferred from General Motors, All of my family lives in Indianapolis and the only thing we had was each other. It was a push and it was stressful, but we do believe that we’ve broken through the roughest year,” said Charmayne.
