Small Ships Revue is ready to set sail

Staff report

Sharon, Pa.

The 32nd annual Small Ships Revue will set sail in downtown Sharon on Friday. The event will kick off Small Ships Weekend, which runs through Sunday at the Quaker Steak and Lube complex.

The pre-party will begin at 3 p.m. Friday at the Lube. A 6 p.m. parade in downtown Sharon will precede the ship launch.

The ships — a flotilla of wacky anything-that-floats boats — will begin the cruise down the Shenango River at 7 p.m.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place as well as for other categories such as most unique and most patriotic, with a panel of local celebrities serving as judges.

More than $5,000 in cash and prizes, including $1,000 for the first-place crew, will be awarded.

A Lady Gaga impersonator will be in attendance from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday.

Live entertainment with Graphic Pink and Pipedreams will begin at 8 p.m. A fireworks display will cap the event at 10:15 p.m.

The Lady Gaga impersonator also will perform at the Quaker Steak & Lube Fake Fest on Saturday, along with Strutter (Kiss tribute band), Thunderstruck (AC/DC), and headliner Bon-Journey (Bon Jovi and Journey). The tribute-band concert will begin at 5 p.m.

Small Ships Weekend will conclude Sunday with Quaker Family Fun Day from noon to 4 p.m., which will feature children’s games, bouncers, slides, face painting, magic shows and more. Children can eat for free at the Lube from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with an adult meal purchase.
