POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

June 19

Drugs: A traffic stop on Western Reserve Road led to a summons against 34-year-old Stephen M. Helmick, 6441 E. South Range Road, Petersburg, after police said he had roughly 5.3 grams of suspected marijuana in a container.

June 22

Theft: A car stereo and a DVD player were among items stolen from a vehicle parked in the 5500 block of Youngstown-Poland Road.

Theft: An Edgewater Drive man reported two computer hard drives, a DVD player and a small amount of money stolen, for a loss of $2,268.

Theft: An Edgewater Drive woman reported the theft of $2.

Theft: A Renwick Drive man discovered miscellaneous books and keys, a portable radio, a car charger and other property missing. The theft came to $885.

Identity theft: A township woman noticed a $51 unauthorized charge to her credit card.

June 23

Theft/disrupting public services: Someone stole about 1,200 feet of phone wire in the 1700 block of Bedford Road, interrupting service to the area.

Criminal mischief: Eggs were tossed at a residence in the 8600 block of FaireweatherTrail.

BOARDMAN

June 21

Assault: Two witnesses traveling in a vehicle on Market Street reported seeing a male assaulting a female in the road, though no other information was available.

June 22

Theft: Police charged Joshua S. Essad, 27, of 4930 Brookwood Road, Boardman, with tearing a piece of aluminum foil from a box at Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Theft: A woman stole eight pairs of women’s jeans and other merchandise from Dillard’s in the Southern Park Mall.

Breaking and entering: Four tires and four rims were removed from a garage in the 80 block of Homestead Drive, for an estimated $2,500 loss.

Theft: A $240 air-conditioning unit was stolen from a piece of rental property in the 4000 block of South Schenley Avenue.

Theft: Someone in the 2000 block of Mathews Road removed a $180 aluminum baseball bat and a small sum of money from a vehicle.

Harassment: An employee with a Boardman-Canfield Road business said a former family member has been making such calls while she was at work.

Drug paraphernalia: A traffic stop on Market Street led to a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia against 21-year-old Mohammad Y. Khan, 5610 Southern Blvd., Boardman, when, authorities said, a suspected marijuana pipe was found.

Arrest: A search warrant to a Lemans Drive apartment led to the arrest of 24-year-old Marlon A. Swiggett, 111 Lemans, on charges of possession of criminal tools and drug paraphernalia when, police said, a digital scale and suspected marijuana were found. Swiggett also was wanted on a probation-violation charge from Campbell.

Drugs: While executing a search warrant on Meadowbrook Avenue, police took into custody Justin M. Malice, 26; Richard R. Renfro, 30; and Tiffany B. Michalak, 31, all of 86 Meadowbrook, on a variety of drug-related charges. Three bags of a white powder, a suspected marijuana pipe and a spoon with suspected heroin residue were among contraband found. Michalak faced an additional child-endangering charge after authorities said an 8-year-old boy was discovered in a bedroom.

June 23

Theft: Brittnie D. Morris, 20, of 208 E. LaClede Ave., Youngstown, Paris A. Loury, 20, of 4020 Hillman Way, Boardman, and Roselynn Lassalle, 23, of 911 Madison Ave., Youngstown, all were charged with stealing $256 worth of merchandise from Walmart. All were released on summonses.

Vandalism: A Jeep’s passenger-side door sustained $500 in damage in the 8500 block of South Avenue.

Misuse of a credit card: An Aylesboro Avenue woman discovered two unauthorized charges totaling $600 on her credit-card statement.

Theft: A Southern Boulevard woman said her former boyfriend refused to return various articles of clothing and some of her son’s toys.

Felonious assault: A Jaguar Drive man alleged a neighbor struck his head with an undetermined object, resulting in a bloody mouth, a loose tooth and a large cut for all of which he sought medical treatment. The neighbor contended he was defending himself.

Aggravated menacing: A Clifton Drive man reported two males in his yard threatened to burn down his home.

Theft: A man stole a $130 Bluetooth headset from AT&T, 7125 Tiffany Blvd.

Aggravated menacing: A Boardman-Canfield Road man told police a former co-worker came to his apartment and threatened to shoot him regarding money owed.

Theft: Police picked up Anthony J. Geraci Jr., 40, of 173 Country Green Drive, Austintown, on a warrant. He was accused of stealing a $320 nail gun from Rental Corral, 4627 Market St.

June 24

Domestic violence: David T. Fink, 47, of 409 Rockdale Ave., Boardman, faced a misdemeanor domestic-violence charge as well as felony charges of intimidation and vandalism after his girlfriend alleged Fink had repeatedly slapped her head. Fink also threatened several times to kill an officer, then kicked and damaged a window while in the police cruiser, a report showed.

Theft: Two women in their 20s stole $25 worth of merchandise from Dollar General, 271 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Assault: A Salinas Trail man alleged a neighbor shoved him and entered the accuser’s vehicle.

Theft: Someone removed $10 from a car parked in the 60 block of Alburn Drive.

Theft: A $300 iPod device and $55 were missing from a vehicle in the 7400 block of West Boulevard.

Criminal damaging: Someone in the 100 block of Shadyside Drive tried to force open a vehicle’s driver’s-side door, damaging its panel.

Theft: A purse, a global-positioning-system unit and a cellphone were taken from a car in the 7600 block of Spring Park Drive.

Criminal trespassing: Police received information about a man asking customers for money at a Hillman Way bank’s automated-teller machine.

Theft: Police charged a 15-year-old Youngstown girl with stealing seven cosmetic items from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road.

Domestic violence: Matthew J. Treharn, 26, of 2034 Woodward Ave., Poland, surrendered on a warrant after his girlfriend, of Boardman, alleged Treharn had grabbed her hair and kicked her several times in the stomach and legs during an argument.

Theft: Ryan J. Connor, 31, of West Aliquippa, Pa., was charged in the theft of an air-conditioning unit and a deep fryer from Walmart.

Domestic violence: Youngstown police arrested Kelli D. Coffer, 28, of 4020 Hillman Way, Boardman, on a felony domestic-violence charge after Coffer’s sister alleged he had punched her head and lip and tried to choke her. The charge was a felony because of a prior domestic-violence conviction, a report said.

June 25

Burglary: Someone cut a screen to a rear door, entered a residence in the 50 block of Southwoods Drive and took a 32-inch, flat-screen TV and several other items.

Stolen property: Samantha J. Gatte, 18, of 22 Shadyside Drive, Boardman, faced one felony count each of receiving stolen property and forgery as well as a misdemeanor count of passing a bad check after officers responded to CheckSmart, 112 Boardman-Poland Road, regarding a stolen $125 check. Gatte tried to cash another person’s check without authorization, a report said.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 300 block of East Midlothian Boulevard had a broken driver’s-side window and had been ransacked.

Felonious assault: Police charged a 14-year-old Boardman male with felonious assault and domestic violence after a family member reported having received a superficial cut as he tried to take from the angry teen a kitchen knife the boy threatened to use to commit suicide.

Arrest: Police responded to a report of an intoxicated person at the Boardman Plaza before charging 58-year-old William R. Watson with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Watson, of 7109 Market St., Boardman, became hostile, continually shouted obscenities and briefly struggled with police, they said.

Theft: Several credit and debit cards were removed from a car at a Boardman-Poland Road eatery.

Counterfeit: A phony $10 bill was passed at a BP gas station, 310 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Possible fraud: An official with a Canfield business told police an employee of one of his companies oversaw roofing and siding work to a Windel Way home before a resident reported an $8,100 insurance-claim check missing.

Criminal damaging: A car in the 80 block of Lemans Drive was found with damage to two doors and a window. The estimate was $1,150.

Theft: A customer rented but failed to return a $600 carpet-scrubbing machine to Dollar General, 859 E. Midlothian Blvd.

Theft: A man in his mid-30s stole two boxes of tablets from Dollar General, 5953 South Ave.

Menacing: An Austintown woman reported that while leaving the Southern Park Mall, her former husband was nearby watching her.

Harassment: A Friendship Avenue man reported getting several unwanted hang-up calls.
