Grant for security at Beatitude House
YOUNGSTOWN
Beatitude House, 238 Tod Lane, has received a $12,000 grant from The Youngstown Foundation to update its security system. Twelve families receive services through its transitional housing program on the North Side of Youngstown. In addition to housing, families receive support services such as case management, counseling, and child advocacy.
“We appreciate the support The Youngstown Foundation has given us to ensure the families in our care are safe as they continue to work to make positive changes in their lives” said Sister Patricia McNicholas, executive director.

Hot-dog eating contest planned

Coney Island Restaurant will have a hot-dog eating contest at 2 p.m. July 7 at Southern Park Mall.
The object of the contest is to eat as many hot dogs and buns as possible in five minutes with water as the only beverage.
Contestants must be at least 18. The fee to participate is $20. Half will be donated to Akron Children’s Hospital. The deadline to register is Wednesday. For information, contact Robert McGuire at 330-233-2634.
CASTLO forms community fund

The CASTLO Community Improvement Corp. has formed the CASTLO Community Fund.
The CASTLO member communities are Campbell, Struthers, Lowellville, and Coitsville and Poland townships.
“The intention of the fund is to perpetuate CASTLO’s mission through initiatives that support community enhancements and educational advancements as well as leadership and collaborative programs,” said Randy Partika, chairman of the CASTLO board.
The CASTLO Community Fund, a fund of The Youngstown Foundation, is funded with revenue received through an oil and gas leases on the CASTLO property. Its initial contribution to initiate the fund was $50,000.
