Equipment failure causes power outage tonight

SALEM — Power to about 1,160 customers, primarily in Salem with a portion in Canfield, was out for 1 hour and 15 minutes today as Ohio Edison workers replaced a piece of equipment that stopped working, said David Turner, the company’s area manager for Mahoning and Columbiana counties.

The outage started at 7:30 p.m. and ended at 8:45 p.m., Turner said.

Once the electricity regulator that malfunctioned was replaced, the power was restored, he said. There is no known cause for the failure, Turner said late tonight.
