Four permits for horizontal drilling in the Mahoning Valley issued

Four new permits for horizontal drilling in the Mahoning Valley were issued last week by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Three of the permits were granted to Chesapeake Exploration LLC including one in Mahoning County and two in Columbiana County.

The Mahoning County site is in Green Township in off West Middletown Road near the Chaparral Family Campground between Salem Warren and Youngstown Salem roads. The Columbiana County locations are in Hanover and Unity townships.

The Hanover Township site is off Speidel Road between New Garden and Zeigler roads and in Unity Township the permit was issued for a location off Millrock Road between Ohio 588 and Township Highway 934.

The fourth permit was issued to Swepi LP, a subsidiary of Shell. This is the first permit issued to a company affiliated with Shell in the Mahoning Valley.

The site is located in Unity Township off Waterford Road between Ewonger and Hamilton roads about two miles northeast of New Waterford.
