Delay requested in Ohio man’s Pitt threat case

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Prosecutors and the attorney for an Ohio man accused of threatening administrators at the University of Pittsburgh want his next court appearance delayed.

The joint motion filed Tuesday by federal prosecutors and Alexander Waterland’s attorney signals they are in talks about resolving the case. Waterland’s hearing was scheduled for today.

The 24-year-old Loveland, Ohio, man was arrested last week and accused of posting a YouTube video threatening to release stolen computer records unless administrators apologized for not “protecting” students after the campus was targeted by dozens of bomb threats.

Waterland denied wrongdoing following his arrest. He’s not charged with making the bomb threats that paralyzed the campus for weeks.

The bomb threats stopped after the university complied with an emailed demand to withdraw a $50,000 reward in the case.
