Association elects new president

Atty. Shirley J. Christian has been elected to succeed Atty. Robert N. Rusu as president of the Mahoning County Bar Association for a one-year term, effective immediately.

Also during Monday’s banquet at the Youngstown Country Club, Attys. James L. Messenger and Larry D. Wilkes received the association’s distinguished service award. The award is given to lawyers or judges who have given exemplary service to the bar association or the community.

Attys. Martin S. Goldberg, Daniel L. Rossi, Robert E. Tablack and Jerry O. Stephens were honored for 60 years as lawyers; and Attys. Ronald G. Galip and Donald J. Varner were recognized for 55 years in the legal profession.

Honored for 50 years as lawyers were: Attys. Dennis Haines, Richard P. McLaughlin and James L. Pazol.

Atty. Gregg A. Rossi, president of the association’s foundation, announced the award of 19 scholarships, ranging from $1,000 to $2,000 each, to 19 current or incoming law school students.
