Youth chorus plans 3 concerts

SALEM

The Salem Youth Chorus will present three area concerts before their performances at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans and at Trinity Episcopal Church in Baton Rouge.

The concerts are titled “Lo, a Voice to Heaven Sounding.”

The first will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at St. Paul’s Social Hall, 925 E. State St., Salem. This performance includes dinner with cabaret music and choral performance. Tickets are $10. Call 330-581-3033 for reservations.

The second will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Boardman Methodist Church, 6809 Market St., Boardman.

The final concert will be at 6 p.m. Monday at St. Jude’s Church, 180 Seventh St., Columbiana.

Free-will offerings will be collected Saturday and Monday.

The SYC also is accepting auditions for the 2012-13 season. Singers must be between age 13 and early collegiate age, enjoy singing challenging repertoire and be able to responsibly function and perform in a supportive but demanding learning environment. ‘Mary Poppins’ ticket information

Tickets will go on sale at 9 a.m. Friday for the return engagement of the touring Broadway musical production of “Mary Poppins,” which will come to Benedum Center Oct. 16-21.

Curtain times are 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16-18; 8 p.m. Oct. 19; 1 and 8 p.m. oct. 20; and 1 and 6:30 p.m. Oct. 21.

Concert, fireworks at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.

Westminster College will host an old-fashioned Independence Day celebration with a free concert and fireworks at 7:30 p.m. next Tuesday at Brittain Lake. The concert will feature the River City Brass Band, Pittsburgh Firefighters Memorial Pipers Band and vocalists Kathy Mansell and Ali Pabrinkis. Attendees can bring blankets and lawn chairs, as well as picnic baskets and refreshments. Food vendors will be on site. In case of rain, the concert will be in Anderson Amphitheater.
