YOUNGSTOWN

Delvin Williams is in Mahoning County jail charged with felonious assault after police accused him of beating a man who called authorities to complain about Williams’ dog after the dog bit the man.

According to police reports, officers were sent Friday afternoon to the 300 block of West Evergreen Avenue on the South Side in reference to a man bitten by a loose pit bull.

The man told police he was walking down the street and the dog attacked, biting him on the right leg.

The victim said he did not want to press charges on the dog’s owner, but would like to request that the owner keep the dog tied up so no children in the area are hurt.

Police identified the owner as Williams, 31, of West Evergreen.

The victim told police, later that day, Williams approached him about an hour after the attack and asked why he called the police on the loose dog.

Williams, he said, punched him in the face twice then shoved him off of the porch, causing him to hit his head on the concrete pavement.

Police found the man in the front yard with blood gushing from his head.

He was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment. He was listed in stable condition Monday.

Police found Williams at his home and arrested him on the felonious assault charge and for two warrants — one for failure to pay child support and another for failing to appear in court on a traffic violation.
