Scrappers’ late rally not enough

STATE COLLEGE, PA.
Down 6-3 in the top of the ninth Sunday in State College, the Scrappers plated a pair of runs, but it was not enough to complete the comeback.
Hosting the three-game series, the Spikes swept Mahoning Valley with the 6-5 win.
Evan Frazar’s two-out single in the ninth brought home Juan Romero and Aaron Siliga. The next batter, Jairo Kelly, grounded out to end the game.
The Scrappers (2-5 scored three runs in the fourth inning beginning with a Marcus Bradley single. Romero drove him in two batters later. Joe Sever plated Charlie Valerio on a sharp single up the middile.
Siliga brought in another run with a ground out.
State College (5-2) scored in the first, fourth, sixth and eight innings.
Joan Montero picked up his second win of the season after Joely Rodriguez started with five solid innings. Montero has yet to surrender an earned run.
Louis Head sustained the loss for the Scrappers. He pitched three innings in relief of Jake Sisco.
Sever was 3 for 4, while Romero was 2 for 3. Frazar also collected another hit in the seventh inning.
Ryan Hornback went 3 for 4 with a triple for State College.
Mahoning Valley now returns to Eastwood Field for a six-game homestand. It begins tonight against the Williamsport Crosscutters at 7:05.
