Apartment fire
Youngstown
No one was injured in an apartment fire on the city’s South Side.
Silverio Caggiano of the Youngstown Fire Department said a call was received about 12:45 p.m. Sunday that Goodwill Apartments on Hillman Street was on fire.
Caggiano said a woman was cooking french fries and failed to turn off her oven before going down to another apartment. When she returned, she smelled smoke and saw water coming from her residence.
“The french fries had cooked and burned and activated the sprinkler system,” he said. “The water put the fire out, but there was water damage.”
Caggiano said no one was injured, but the woman’s fourth-floor apartment, as well as the ones directly below her, sustained water damage.
