Austintown trustees will seek certification of 3 fire levies

AUSTINTOWN — Township trustees will determine in coming weeks if they’ll replace three fire levies, but first they need certification from the Mahoning County auditor.

The board voted tonight to ask for auditor’s certification of three levies that would replace current levies of 1.2 mills, 1-mill and 1.5-mills, approved in 1976, 1984 and 1992, respectively.

The levies, totaling 3.7-mills, currently raise about $1,169,000 for the fire department, said township Administrator Michael Dockry.
