YBI, Case Western officials to get award

Dr. Marv Schwartz, the Youngstown Business Incubator’s chief science officer, was at the White House last week for the launch of US Ignite, where the National Science Foundation announced that Schwartz and Dr. Lev Gonick, Case Western University vice president of Information Technology and CIO, will be receiving one of just 10 EAGER Grant awards in the country for their project to build a next generation High Definition Multipoint Video Conferencing technology for ultra high-speed broadband networks.

The technology will initially focus on telemedicine and wellness programs using Gigabit and faster networks, such as the Case Connection Zone network to which the university is adding more than 100 senior-citizen residences.

Law firm plans to combine operations

Green, Haines Sgambati law firm will consolidate its operations in Mahoning County by moving the staff at the firm’s Austintown office to its site in downtown Youngstown.

The 17 staff members in Austintown are scheduled to move Nov. 1. The firm will retain offices in Austintown to meet with clients. The firm also has offices in East Liverpool and Ashtabula.

Cleaning for a cause is company’s goal

A new cleaning company, Cleaners for a Cause LLC, has opened in the area.

The company is a commercial and residential cleaning service that takes 10 percent of the profit from every job and places it in a fund that will be donated to special-needs organizations in the community.

The goal is to be able to get commercial spaces large enough to hire and train special-needs adults on job management and skills necessary for the work field.

Shale seminar set

A shale production and overview seminar conducted by Penn State University takes place Monday at the Salem Community Center, 1098 N. Ellsworth Ave.

The eight-hour course includes information on shale economics, geology, leasing, drilling practices, well construction and other items. To register, go to www.msetc.org. The cost is $249.

Wheatland Tube releases free app

JMC Steel Group’s Wheatland Tube division has released a free app for Android (2.2+) smartphones, tablet devices, iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

EMT Calc enables electrical contractors to calculate the savings from using 20-foot electrical metallic tubing instead of standard 10-foot electrical metallic tubing.
