LAUREN SCHATTINGER Lakeview sprinter

Track
Make no bones about it, Lakeview’s Lauren Schattinger is a sprinter. She’s won her fair share of races from 60 meters to 200 meters. The shorter the better — and the faster.
A Miami of Ohio-bound runner who will study Kinesiology, Schattinger won the 100 and 200 at the district and regional meet in both her junior and senior years. If she could just pick one event, what would it be?
“Really,” Schattinger said, “it depends on the day.”
Since she was a freshman, Schattinger spent the first week of June in Columbus for the state meet. She got her first taste on the 4x200 relay where she helped the Bulldogs place sixth.
“That was really a highlight,” she said. “It was really a good start to stepping into the high school scene.”
As a sophomore she returned as a member of the 4x100 relay before qualifying as an individual these last two years.
“It’s nice to make it alone, but it’s a whole different world when you’re down at state with a team,” she said. “It’s nice to be able to enjoy it with the other girls.”
Although track is mostly defined as a singular sport, Schattinger sees the importance of competition.
“It’s so unique because other people are constantly pushing you, as well,” she said. “Some of the girls that are my biggest rivals are also my biggest friends. Everyone can understand what each other is going through.”
Her father, Michael, instilled in her a strong work ethic from a young age.
“Regardless of what happens on the track — If I win, if I lose — as long as I better myself that’s what I can be happy about at the end of the day,” she said.
