Brookfield United Methodist Church will welcome the Rev. Joyce L. J. Lawson as its minister July 1.

She previously was pastor at Mahoning United Methodist Church in Youngstown, where she served since 2000. She is a full elder in the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Mrs. Lawson graduated from Mount Union College in Alliance and received a master of divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1986.

She has served as the CROP Walk Coordinator for Northern Morrow County, Apollo, Pa., and the Youngstown area. She served on the board of the Mahoning Valley Association of Churches for six years, four as president.

She is serving on the board of the United Methodist Community Center, located in Youngstown and Warren. She is on the Mahoning Valley District Committee of Ordained Ministry and has been its registrar since 2004.

Her husband, the Rev. Peter Lawson, is an Army National Guard chaplain serving at the National Guard Bureau in Arlington, Va. They live in Boardman and have two adult children.

Summer church services are at 10 a.m. Sundays in the fellowship hall at the corner of State Route 7 and Grove Street.
