Monsignor Zuraw to mark 25th anniversary as priest

Monsignor John A. Zuraw will celebrate the 25th anniversary of his ordination at a Mass of Thanksgiving at 11:30 a.m. July 1 at St. Rose Church, 48 E. Main St., where he is pastor.

A reception, by invitation, will be at Leo’s Ristorante in Warren.

Monsignor Zuraw, a native of Campbell, is a son of John and Jean Konopka Zuraw. He attended St. Joseph the Provider School in Campbell and graduated from Ursuline High School in Youngstown and Youngstown State University.

His seminary studies included the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in history; the Athenaeum of Ohio in Cincinnati, a master of divinity degree; and Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., a licentiate in canon law.

He was ordained June 20, 1987, by Bishop James W. Malone in St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown.

After his ordination, Monsignor Zuraw served as parochial vicar from 1987-93 at St. Louis Parish in Louisville, and from 1993-96 at St. Rose, before being named executive director of the diocesan department of clergy and religious services from 1996-2008. He was named administrator of Immaculate Conception Parish, Youngstown, where he served from 1999-2010.

In July 2004, Monsignor Zuraw began serving as director of the Permanent Diaconate Program, and continues in that role. He also served as vicar for administration from July 2008-July 2010 in the Diocese of Youngstown before being named pastor of St. Rose.

Monsignor Zuraw serves as the Presbyteral Chair, a member of the Diocesan Review Board, member of Ursuline High board of directors and a regional Catholic Charities board member. He is a presiding judge for the Appellate Court of the Marriage Tribunal. In 2000, he was named Promoter of Justice for the diocese.

He has bi-ritual faculties in the Maronite Rite. He was named chaplain of His Holiness with the title of monsignor in March 1997.

Monsignor Zuraw’s other assignment have included the Diocesan Board of Education; Priests Retirement Board; faculty of Ursuline College in Cleveland; friar for the Knights of Columbus, Girard Assembly; adjunct spiritual director of Pontifical College Josephinum and Diocesan College of Consultors.
