Youngstown police investigating city's 16th homicide

YOUNGSTOWN — Police are investigating an early morning shooting death on the city’s South Side.

Police have not released the victim’s name, but have confirmed that he was shot at about 2:45 a.m. at Oak Hill and Falls avenues while walking to his car from a nearby bar. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are calling the shooting an aggravated murder. It is the city’s 16th homicide of the year. The city recorded only six homicides at this time in 2011.

This homicide comes on the same day memorial services are to take place for Dion Weatherspoon, who was killed on the city’s South Side last week.
