Spaghetti dinner to benefit cancer patient
Boardman National Honors Society will be hosting a spaghetti dinner to benefit the mother of one of their members who was diagnosed with cancer. The benefit will be held on Sunday from 3-7 p.m. at the St. John Greek Orthodox Church on Glenwood Ave. in Boardman. There will be food, a Chinese auction, and a 50/50 raffle. Tickets are $10 per person and $5 for children 5 and younger. To pre-order tickets call 330-506-0880.
Boardman natives graduate from Malone
Boardman’s Daniel Frum, Master of Business Administration major, Ross Mellott, Master of Christian Ministries major, and Bryan Shaw, Master, Business Administration major, graduated from Malone University on April 28 at Faith Family Church. Baccalaureate services were held the evening prior at the Johnson Center for Worship and the Fine Arts.
Boardman teen selected as state finalist for American Miss Pageant
Courtney Frommelt, 14, has been chosen as a State Finalist at the National American Miss Ohio Pageant to be held July 29-30. The winner of the pageant will receive a $1,000 prize, as well as the right to compete in the national pageant in Disneyland in California. Frommelt is the daughter of Mickey and Jill Frommelt of Boardman. Her other activities include cheerleading and volleyball, as well as having fun with her friends.
Constantini crowned Miss Petite Starpower
Kate Constantini of Jamie’s Dance Force had the award-winning solo, “I’m A Star” and was crowned Miss Petite Starpower at the regional dance competition in Columbus on May 20. She was also crowned Miss Petite Headliners back in February at Boardman High School for her solo.
She will be competing with her winning solo again at the national competition in Las Vegas in July. She will be entering fourth grade in the fall.
Ursuline teacher receives Doctorate Degree
Ursuline High School teacher Linda Lucarell Miller, of Youngstown, recently received a Doctor of Ministry from St. Mary’s Seminary in Cleveland. Miller completed a Master of Religious Education degree from Loyola University, New Orleans and a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Youngstown State University.
She has been teacher and catechist in the Diocese of Youngstown, receiving the Golden Apple Award in 2004. She was a recipient of the Dr. Robert Coles Spritual Growth Institute scholarship at Boston College. Miller was a Triwizard Teacher with a project linking Jewish and Arab students from Akko, Israel to students of Ursuline High School in 2008 and 2009. She currently teaches religion at Ursuline High School and is the Liturgy Coordinator there.
Ursuline Center hosts trunk and treasure sale
The Ursuline Center, 4280 Shields Road, Canfield, is accepting registrations for its annual Car Trunk and Treasure sale July 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For $25 ($30 after June 30) each seller will receive two parking spaces. Inside the center will be a book and food sale.
The Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown will be selling household products and other goods. There will also be an antique sale for serious collectors. All items are cash payment only. Indoor restrooms will be available. The sale will be held rain or shine, no refunds.

Bonding with Babies and Books
Babies 6-23 months are invited to join us July 5 at 10 a.m. at the public library for developmentally appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child become a successful reader. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
“Diary of a Wimpy Kid” fun
Students grades 4-6 are invited to the Boardman library on July 31 at 2 p.m. to experience trivia, games and fun based on the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series.
Seventh annual auction at Margaritaville set
Easter Seals’ seventh annual “Auction at Margaritaville” will be held on July 20 at St. Michael’s Family Life Center from 6–10:30 p.m. The evening includes a Cheeseburger in Paradise dinner with cash bar available. There will be live, silent and Chinese auctions by ByceAUCTION, and MC Jeff Kelly from WBBG BIG 106.1 will make an appearance. Admission is $20. Family storytime fun for all
The Boardman Library will host stories and fun at the library from 10-10:30 a.m. on July 25. Parents are invited to join and children of all ages are encouraged to attend.
Youth group hosts sale, cornhole tournament
The high school youth of First Covenant Church in Boardman will sponsor a yard/bake sale and cornhole tournament on Sunday to raise funds for a trip to CHIC (Covenant High in Christ), a national triennial event to be held at the University of Tennessee in July.
The sale begins at noon and cornhole registration begins at 3 p.m., with the tournament starting at 4 p.m. Hamburgers, hot dogs and baked goods will be available. Raffle tickets will be sold for a set of cornhole boards and bags (value $200).

TAB Meeting at library
Check us out at the monthly TAB (Teen Advisory Board) meeting on July 11 at 6:30 p.m. We meet the first Wednesday of the month at the Boardman library. Newcomers are always welcome. For teens in grades 7-12.
It’s Mad Science at library
Join Dr. Weirdo at the public library at 2 p.m. on July 19 and discover how magical science can be. This event is presented by Mad Science of Northeast Ohio and promises to be fun for kids of all ages.
Launch into rockets
Children of all ages can learn some NASA history and make a paper rocket to launch. Preschoolers must attend with an adult. Only at the Boardman library on July 26 at 2 p.m.
It’s ‘Just a Dream’ with the Mahoning County Green Team
Join the Mahoning County Green Team at the public library in Boardman at 10 a.m. on July 17 as they read “Just a Dream” by Chris Van Allsburg and have fun making a craft. For children preschool to third grade.
Meet Zinc the Zebra
Come to the Boardman library on July 18 at 10 a.m. to meet Zinc the Zebra, who has spots instead of stripes. Zinc wants to teach kids about diversity and about the importance of being kind and sensitive to others who appear different from us. Kids will also make their own Zinc the Zebra puppet.
Zinc is presented by the Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio and is fun for kids of all ages.
Puppet show at the library
A puppet show featuring “Gunniwolf,” “The Little Red Hen,” and “Who Kissed the Baby?” will be shown at 7 p.m. on July 10 and at 2 p.m. on July 11. This show is fun for the entire family. Preschoolers must attend with an adult. Program for the whole Family will last one hour and a freeze pop treat will be served.
Business Start-Up Workshop
The library partners with SCORE, Counselors to America’s Small Business, in presenting this seminar on July 16 at 6:30 p.m. Are you thinking about starting a business in the near future or further down the road? Members of SCORE will address key topics for those considering beginning a business: start-up considerations, marketing, finances, and technology for business. The Business and Investment Center librarian will discuss the Library’s sources and services for business start-up and beyond.
Get your blood pressure checked
There will be a blood pressure screening by the Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross at the public library on July 2 from 12:30-3 p.m.

Library online resources are for everyone. Come to the library on July 2 at 6:30 p.m. and learn about the many research databases and web sites the library provides for your information needs. This class will do a brief tour of the many databases available, along with a tour of the Subject Area Research, Smart Money, and Your Gov web sites.

East High School Class of 1964 reunion set
The Class of 1964 has organized a reunion for all classmates of the 1960’s of East High School on August 18th from 3-7 p.m. The reunion will be held at St. George Croatian Center on Vestal Road in Youngstown. Family Garden Fun set
Plan a drop-in visit to the Family Garden on fair weather Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays throughout June to dig, water, pot a plant to take home or read a book.

Fellows Riverside Garden will host In the Time of Dinosaurs today from 1:30 to 3 p.m. What kinds of plants are growing in the Family Garden that might have been growing in the time of the dinosaurs? Family tours set

Wearing your bike helmet could get you free ice cream
The Boardman Optimists, Boardman Dairy Queen and Boardman Police are sponsoring a Bike Helmet Safety program this summer for Valley children.
During June, July and August, officers will be handing out “sweet citations” to children seen wearing their bike helmets. These citations can be redeemed for a free small ice cream cone at the Boardman DQ, located at 6120 Market Street.
Find hidden treasures
The Boardman library invites children of all ages to search for hidden treasure buried in the sand. Find the treasure and receive a hand stamp or a stick. During library hours through summer.

The Boardman library will host Family Story Time on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Children of all ages are invited to join in on the stories and fun. Parents are also invited to join their children in this 30-minute program.
