The Boardman High School orchestra impressed an audience full of family members and friends during its annual spring concert May 23 at the Boardman Performing Arts Center.

The concert included music from Boardman’s Chamber, Classical and Symphony orchestras.

“We’re performing music we played at our national competition. The music today is the most difficult music we’ve had all year,” said Orchestra Director Michele Prokop.

While the concert brought music to many ears, it was also bittersweet for Boardman High School seniors who would be playing for the last time.

“It’s kind of bittersweet because we get them in fifth grade. We see them evolve every year,” Prokop said.

Senior student and bass player Ellen Faust was one of the senior soloist who enjoyed the event.

“I’m a little nervous, but really excited,” said she admitted.

Faust has been a member of the orchestra for nine years and enjoys being able to freely express her creativity through music.

“I just really love being able to make something out of nothing,” Faust said.

According to Prokop, music has not only been a creative outlet for her students, but has also afforded them a variety of experiences they would not have otherwise gained.

“It’s given them an appreciation for the finer things in life,” said Prokop.
