Secret Service agent involved in Ohio shooting


COLUMBUS (AP) — Columbus police say a U.S. Secret Service agent was involved in a shooting near the agency’s offices not far from downtown. He was not injured.

The shooting happened at about 5:45 p.m. Thursday around the corner from the Secret Service offices as the agent was pulling into a parking garage.

Police say the agent told them he heard the attendant shouting for help, saying she was being robbed.

The agent chased a man who jumped into a waiting vehicle with a female passenger. The agent fired his gun during a confrontation. It was not known if the suspect was struck.

Police are seeking the two suspects in the attempted robbery.

The agent’s identity is being withheld. The incident did not involve any of the agency’s protective-service duties.
