The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has issued three new horizontal-drilling permits in Columbiana County.

Chesapeake Exploration LLC received all three permits.

The first was issued June 11 in Hanover Township. It is on Speidel Road west of Newgarden Road slightly more than two miles north of Hanoverton.

ODNR issued a permit June 14 for a site in Elkrun Township. The permit location is between state Route 45 and state Route 558 near Hart Cemetery about 4.5 miles southeast of Salem.

The third permit was issued last Friday in Salem Township. The property is off state Route 7 near Shivelys Lake about a mile northwest of Rogers.

ODNR further reported that drilling was ongoing at a Hanover Township site at more than 3,000 feet deep. A well in Washington Township has been fracked, but there still are no wells that are reported to be producing in the Mahoning Valley, ODNR officials said.

A total of 52 drilling permits for horizontal wells have been issued in the Valley: 40 in Columbiana County, 10 in Mahoning County and two in Trumbull County.
