The members of the Boardman-Poland Juniorettes Club took a stand for animals during the organization’s Walk For Those Who Can’t Walk charity event at Boardman Township Park June 9.

The group hosted the event to support animals after they learned about several animal cruelty cases in the Mahoning Valley, according to Juniorettes’ Adviser Debbie Weaver.

“It makes me feel really bad because ‘how could you treat an animal so bad?’” said Madaline Crish, Juniorettes President.

More than 40 participants walked alongside their furry friends with a donation of at least $10. All the proceeds collected from the event were donated to the Animal Charity Humane Society. There was also a Chinese auction.

Some participants were just excited to spend time with their animals outside.

“I have a lot of pets and I wanted to support them. I also got some exercise with my dog and got to see some old friends,” said Daniel Crish.

The charity event proved to be an enormous help for Animal Charity.

“It’s awesome. I love when people call and tell us about events. It helps us get awareness and gives the animals some exposure as well, so that they may be adopted,” said Animal Charity General Manager Talia Musolino.

The event not only supported the well-being of animals, but also provided a platform for members to sharpen their leadership skills.

“It gives me good leadership skills and makes me feel a sense of accomplishment,” said Juniorettes Club President Madaline Crish.

“I am really proud of all of the girls,” Weaver said.
