Ursuline teacher receives Doctorate degree

Ursuline High School teacher Linda Lucarell Miller, of Youngstown, recently received a Doctor of Ministry from St. Mary’s Seminary in Cleveland. Miller completed a Master of Religious Education degree from Loyola University, New Orleans and a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Youngstown State University.

She has been teacher and catechist in the Diocese of Youngstown, receiving the Golden Apple Award in 2004. She was a recipient of the Dr. Robert Coles Spritual Growth Institute scholarship at Boston College. Miller was a Triwizard Teacher with a project linking Jewish and Arab students from Akko, Israel to students of Ursuline High School in 2008 and 2009. She currently teaches religion at Ursuline High School and is the Liturgy Coordinator there.

Ursuline Center hosts trunk and treasure sale

The Ursuline Center, 4280 Shields Road, Canfield, is accepting registrations for its annual Car Trunk and Treasure sale July 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For $25 ($30 after June 30) each seller will receive two parking spaces. Inside the center will be a book and food sale.

The Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown will be selling household products and other goods. There will also be an antique sale for serious collectors. All items are cash payment only. Indoor restrooms will be available. The sale will be held rain or shine, no refunds.

Seventh annual auction at Margaritaville set

Easter Seals’ seventh annual “Auction at Margaritaville” will be held on July 20 at St. Michael’s Family Life Center from 6–10:30 p.m. The evening includes a Cheeseburger in Paradise dinner with cash bar available. There will be live, silent and Chinese auctions by ByceAUCTION, and MC Jeff Kelly from WBBG BIG 106.1 will make an appearance. Admission is $20. Dream it, do it with the library

If you can dream it, you can make it. July 2-7 during regular hours at the public library you can make and take a star mobile to celebrate the 4th of July. This event is for children of all ages.

Join the circus for a day

Have you ever dreamed of joining the circus? Join us at the public library on July 25 at 11 a.m. for stories and songs and try your hand at a game of chance. You can even walk the tightrope! There will be tattoos, crafts and more. Snacks will be provided. Children of all ages are welcome.

Grown-ups and young children (ages 0-6) will become active participants as they move their bodies to tell stories and rhymes, sing and dance, and talk and play in ways that will encourage our children to engage in learning and become ready to read. This event will be at 11 a.m. July 18 and 19 at the public library. Join the fun.

East High School Class of 1964 reunion set

The Class of 1964 has organized a reunion for all classmates of the 1960’s of East High School on August 18th from 3-7 p.m. The reunion will be held at St. George Croatian Center on Vestal Road in Youngstown. This program provides fishing skills, techniques and information for beginning anglers to start fishing in their own communities. The MetroParks will host MetroMutts hike on June 30 at 10 a.m. Celebrate the 40th anniversary of Ford Nature Center with your favorite canine companion as we hike the All People’s Trail and explore the center’s grounds. Play strawberry hide and seek

Children ages 3-5 years will discover strawberry plants hiding throughout the Family Garden today from 11 a.m. to noon. Fellows Riverside Garden will host In the Time of Dinosaurs today from 1:30 to 3 p.m. What kinds of plants are growing in the Family Garden that might have been growing in the time of the dinosaurs? Play Kinect at the library

The Austintown library will host the Kinect Olympics on Monday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Kindergartners through sixth-graders will split into two teams, USA Red versus USA Blue, and battle through different sporting events in Kinect Sports seasons one and two. Whether you’re a seasoned gamer or have never tried the Kinect, you’ll be entertained by the larger-than-life graphics and friendly, competitive atmosphere. Wearing your bike helmet could get you free ice cream

The Boardman Optimists, Boardman Dairy Queen and Boardman Police are sponsoring a Bike Helmet Safety program this summer for Valley children.

During June, July and August, officers will be handing out “sweet citations” to children seen wearing their bike helmets. These citations can be redeemed for a free small ice cream cone at the Boardman DQ, located at 6120 Market Street.

Bereaved Parents meeting set

The Mahoning County Chapter of Bereaved Parents of the USA meet the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Park Vista of Youngstown, 1216 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. The parents meet to honor and remember their children who have passed away.

Wickliffe block watch hosts garage sale

The Austintown Wickliffe Block Watch is accepting clean and usable donations for its garage sale Aug. 28-29. All proceeds from the sale will go toward the group’s annual block party which is open to all Austintown residents.
