CANFIELD

An ex-Campbell mayor has pleaded not guilty to a charge of operating a vehicle under the influence after he was arrested in Beaver Township earlier this week.

George N. Krinos, 34, of Campbell, appeared in Mahoning County Area Court here Thursday night to enter his not-guilty plea. His bond was set at $5,000, and a pretrial hearing is scheduled for July 25.

A Beaver Township police officer stopped Krinos about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday for traveling 61 mph in a 45 mph zone and noticed a smell of alcohol.

Krinos told the officer he had taken several types of medication but denied drinking, according to reports.

Police gave him a field sobriety test and said Krinos showed signs of impaired driving; Krinos declined to take a urine test.

Reports state this is Krinos’ second OVI charge in six years, and he was placed under administrative license suspension, and his car was impounded.

Krinos also has a pending court case out of Boardman, where he is accused of making false alarms and calling emergency services after telling a Boardman restaurant employee that he was overdosing on drugs, according to records.

He has pleaded not guilty in that case, and a pretrial hearing is set for July 3.
