YOUNGSTOWN

The city’s board of control hired a Youngstown firm for $93,905 to handle design work related to V&M Star’s roll shop on Salt Springs Road.

The board on Thursday selected MS Consultants to do the work, which includes topographic surveying, design drawings, writing contract documents and cost estimates.

The money comes from a $500,000 state grant the city is receiving that will renovate an existing 93,000-square-foot manufacturing facility.

A time frame for MS’ work isn’t yet known, said T. Sharon Woodberry, the city’s economic development director.

V&M will employ 25 people at that location. The company is using the site as a roll shop and to repair broken equipment.

The location is the former site of RAS Manufacturing, vacant for four years.

V&M plans to invest about $3 million at the Salt Springs Road location as part of its $650 million expansion project at the former Youngstown Sheet & Tube Brier Hill Works facility. The company is expected to be fully operational by 2013.

V&M manufactures steel tubes for the oil and gas industry.
