Boardman grad earns Burger King scholarship

Neighbors | Submitted.Kyriakos Theophanous of Boardman, OH was one of three recipients of the 2012 James W. McLamore WHOPPER™ Scholarship from the Burger King Scholars Program. He was given a $50,000 scholarship to use for his college education.

The Burger King Scholars Program has named Boardman’s Kyriakos Theophanous as one of three recipients of the 2012 $50,000 James W. McLamore Whopper Scholarship.

Theophanous has been a Burger King employee since the age of 16 and has been active in his school and local community as an Eagle Scout, music teacher and first violinist in the local Chamber and Symphony Orchestras, among numerous other activities. He still maintained a 3.94 GPA.

Theophanous is a June graduate of Boardman High School and will attend the University of Pittsburgh this fall. He plans to study Biomedical Engineering.

A total of 107 other students from Ohio received $1,000 scholarship awards in recognition of their outstanding academic achievement, along with other academic and community involvement.

Recipients of Burger King Scholars Program awards are selected based on their grade point average, extracurricular activities, community service and/or work experience. Both Burger King employees and non-employees are eligible to apply.
