Pa.-based builder fined $741K for pollution

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Department of Justice says national homebuilder Toll Brothers Inc. has agreed to a fine and changes in managing stormwater runoff at home sites.

The consent decree was filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Philadelphia against Horsham, Pa.-based Toll Brothers, which was accused of more than 600 violations of the Clean Water Act at its home construction sites in 23 states.

In a news release, the department also said Toll Brothers will improve compliance with water quality requirements at its current and future construction projects nationwide.

A message to Toll Brothers seeking comment wasn’t immediately returned Tuesday.

There is a 30-day period for public comment, after which the court will make a final ruling.
