Ohio man accused of Internet threats at Pitt

PITTSBURGH (AP) — An Ohio man has been released from custody and has agreed to appear before a federal magistrate next week in western Pennsylvania to face charges that he posted YouTube threats claiming to have stolen computer records from the University of Pittsburgh.

Prosecutors did not seek to detain 24-year-old Alexander Waterland after he was arrested at his home near Cincinnati, which means they don’t consider him a danger to the community or a threat to flee prosecution.

Waterland and his attorney haven’t returned calls on the charges.

He’s accused of posting an anonymous video claiming to have stolen computer records from Pitt and threatening to release the records unless the school’s chancellor made a public apology in May.

Pitt officials haven’t commented on Waterland’s arrest, but previously said the records were never hacked.
