NATO protesters indicted on 11 countss

CHICAGO (AP) — A grand jury in Chicago has handed down an 11-count indictment against three NATO summit protesters jailed since May.

The document obtained by The Associated Press from defense attorneys lists four terrorism-related charges and seven other counts, including attempted arson.

Authorities arrested Brian Church, Jared Chase and Brent Betterly on three preliminary charges under Illinois’ never-before-used anti-terrorism statute. Prosecutors accused them of planning to attack President Barack Obama’s campaign headquarters with Molotov cocktails.

Prosecutors had said at a hearing last week that they wouldn’t make the indictment against the men public until a July 2 arraignment.

But one of the suspects’ lawyers, Sarah Gelsomino, says attorneys obtained it this week from the Cook County Circuit Court’s office. It’s signed by Court Clerk Dorothy Brown and State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez.
