Medical society honors Dr. Albani

Dr. Thomas E. Albani Jr. was recognized as the 2012 Distinguished Physician by the Mahoning County Medical Society at the organization’s recent annual meeting.

Dr. Albani, previously named 2011 Ohio Family Physician of the Year by the Ohio Association of Family Practice, was presented the local award by Dr. Rashid Abdu.

A Hubbard native, Dr. Albani received his medical degree from Ohio State University School of Medicine and has had a private family medicine practice in Canfield since 1990.

Dr. Albani is president of the Mahoning County Medical Society and chairman of the Primary Care Department at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center, where he received the Humility of Mary Health Partners’ Mahoning Valley Leadership in Health Award.

He is a volunteer faculty member for the family medicine residency program at St. Elizabeth Health Center and an assistant clinical professor at Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown.

In 2008, Dr. Albani, of Boardman, became medical director for the Midlothian Free Health Care Clinic, which he helped establish to provide free primary care to those who have no health insurance or who are not eligible for other health-care assistance. He also serves on the board of Access Health Mahoning Valley.

Also recognized at the annual meeting were recipients of the Ohio State Medical Association Fifty Years in Medicine Award. They are: Drs. John Altier, Y.T. Chiu, Charles Crans, Anthony Deramo, Sudershan Garg, Edward Hobbs, Chander Kohli, Felix Pesa and C. Conner White. All received their medical degrees in 1962.
