Tyson to take bite out of Broadway
NEW YORK
Mike Tyson wants his next knockout to be on Broadway.
The former boxer announced Monday that he will team up with director Spike Lee to bring his one-man show, “Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth,” to a Nederlander-owned theater.
The show, a raw confessional on the highs and lows of the life of the retired heavyweight and tabloid target, made its debut in April at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
It will mark Lee’s debut as a Broadway director.
Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion ever in 1986 when he won his title as a 20-year-old. His life since then has been marred by accusations of domestic violence, rape and drug use.
Jennifer Nettles is having a baby
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles is pregnant.
The 37-year-old Grammy-winning country singer and husband, Justin Miller, are expecting their first child in November.
Sugarland’s manager, Gail Gellman, said in a statement that the couple is “thrilled beyond belief.”
The baby is due around the couple’s first wedding anniversary. They tied the knot last November in the Smoky Mountains.
Nettles and Kristian Bush make up the platinum- selling country duo Sugarland. They have such hits as “All I Want To Do,” “Stay,” and “Stuck Like Glue.” Nettles also is a mentor on ABC’s “Duets.”
McCartney turns 70, not slowing down
LONDON
Paul McCartney can still rock at 70. What more could a former Beatle want?
He celebrated his birthday in private Monday, perhaps resting up between gigantic gigs this summer. But he shows no sign of slowing down as his music is passed on to generations too young to have seen him in Wings, much less the Beatles.
Once a pot-smoking counterculture rebel, “Sir Paul” is very much part of the British establishment now, closing Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee concert earlier this month with a mix of favorites that included a raucous “All My Loving,” one of the Beatles’ first smash hits.
He’s also preparing for a featured role as the final act at the July 27 opening ceremony of the London Olympics — just another global audience of a billion or more for one of the most popular performers in pop history.
