Township firefighters and Trumbull County HazMat crews worked into the evening hours Monday to contain a combination of oil and kerosene that seeped into a creek.

The creek, between Beaver Trail and Mosquito Creek, feeds Mosquito Creek.

Fire Chief Dennis Lewis said the spill was contained with a siphon dam which allows water to flow but stops the spill from traveling.

Clean up will begin this morning, the chief said.

Firefighters were called to the scene shortly before 5 p.m. Monday. Lewis said that someone at a tire and automotive business on state Route 5 spilled the material and tried to clean it up, but it got into the sewer and then the creek.
