Bomb-plot suspect seeks own trial outside NE Ohio
CLEVELAND (AP) — One of five men charged with plotting to bomb a highway bridge wants to be tried separately and have the trial moved out of northeast Ohio.
The requests were filed Monday by an attorney for 26-year-old Douglas Wright of Indianapolis.
His attorney says Wright should be tried separately because the other defendants have pointed to him as an instigator. All five pleaded not guilty.
Wright’s attorney says the trial should be moved to Toledo, away from northeast Ohio targets that allegedly were considered.
Authorities say the men tried to detonate what turned out to be a dud bomb provided by an FBI undercover informant. They could face life in prison if convicted of trying to bomb the bridge over the Cuyahoga Valley National Park south of Cleveland.
