Boardman police respond to gun reports, robberies

Township police were kept busy over the weekend responding to two robberies and two cases in which guns were fired.

Two men arrested are due in Mahoning County Area Court here today. Tommy Timothy Grant, 18, of Youngstown, is charged with two counts of aggravated robbery, and Arachi Acevedo-Ramos, 26, of Boardman, is charged with using a weapon while intoxicated.

Grant was arrested after multiple units from Boardman, Youngstown and the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office were called to Hudson Avenue and Hillman Way about 10 p.m. Friday for a large fight involving a gun.

A man was attempting to attack Grant as more than 20 people watched when police arrived, and the man said Grant robbed his two sons at gunpoint earlier that night, taking a cellphone and wallet, according to reports.

Police interviewed the man’s sons, who described the suspect and identified Grant as the man who robbed them, reports state.

Another robbery was reported later, about 12:10 a.m. Sunday. A woman said she walked out of a business in the 7000 block of West Boulevard toward her vehicle and saw a man wearing a dark bandanna over his nose and mouth approaching her, according to reports.

The woman told police the man pushed her, causing her to hit her head on the pavement and injure her left arm, and took her purse and ran. Police set up a perimeter and brought a police dog but could not find the suspect.

The suspect is described as a white man about 6 feet 2 inches tall, between 200 and 220 pounds, in his 40s with facial hair.

Monday, police were called to the 4000 block of South Avenue about 1:30 a.m. for reports of gunfire. Officers saw four men standing in the driveway of 4297 South Ave. and questioned them, finding several shell casings on the property. Ramos was among the men and admitted firing seven rounds into the air and said he drank more than seven beers, according to reports. Police also recovered a gun at the location.
