The movie, “Rock of Ages,” revels in the big hair and tight leather pants of the Sunset Strip in 1987. Great movies came out that year.

v“Full Metal Jacket”: Stanley Kubrick’s Vietnam War drama follows a group of Marines through boot-camp training into pressure-cooker urban warfare situations.

v “Raising Arizona”: An all-time favorite from the Coen brothers and a great example of the off-kilter vibe that arose from their brief collaboration with then-cinematographer Barry Sonnenfeld.

v “Moonstruck”: This is a movie that’s unabashedly old-fashioned and sweet but with a no-nonsense and slightly shaggy streak. It’s a romantic comedy for people who don’t usually like romantic comedies.

v “Less Than Zero”: A lurid depiction of the drugs and decadence of the time. This early Robert Downey Jr. performance showed glimmers of the quick wit and emotional depth that continue to be his trademarks.

v “Dirty Dancing”: Hugely crowd-pleasing with an infectious energy and a vivid sense of place, this became an international phenomenon, and it’s easy to see why. It’s great music, great choreography.

“One Nation Under Dog” (9 p.m., HBO): Stories of Fear, Loss & Betrayal” is a documentary that follows eight case studies examining the complex relationships between humans and canines. Included: A look at a support group for owners of deceased pets.

“The Glass House” (10:02 p.m., ABC): TV’s rip-off artists are at it again in a new reality that has contestants living together in a home equipped with cameras ... um, just like they do on “Big Brother.” It’s set to debut tonight - unless it’s hit with a court injunction.
