Niles cops plan get-tough policy on juvenile offenders

The Niles Police Department has adopted a “zero-tolerance” policy on juvenile crime following several incidents in the city over the past few months.

Chief Rob Hinton said the incidents have involved property crimes such as vandalism on private and public property.

“It’s juveniles and young adults,” Hinton said, and he feels that the problem may be resulting from situations where young people are staying over at another young person’s house and the group getting out late at night and carrying out illegal activities.
